Doing Side Work

I haven't worked on any art because I'm doing some graphic design projects.  I am providing services for some great people and I am enjoying helping others. My main assignment is to create a package for Write Your Life Right.  The goals and objectives are pertinent to anyone feeling blocked and in need of clarity.  I am using the services, so I am committed to helping out in any way I can.

During my spare time, I'll attempt to get some drawings or other creations scanned and put on here.

New Stuff

Today is a good day. I got new items on RedBubble and I visited some wonderful websites. The piece shown is Wings of Paradise. Items are available for purchase. While I was on RedBubble, I stumbeld across the art of artist and designer, Yvonne Less. Her work is so stunning and captivating. On her profile, I saw that she had a website (http://www.diversepixel.com/). You must see all these amazing creations.

Also, I'm so thankful for visiting Yvonne's site because I found out about another great opportunity for artists. I've been trying to figure out how to get my patterns onto fabric, and while I was on Diverse Pixel, I found my answer. There is a company called Spoonflower, located right here in NC, that allows designers to upload and print fabric. I am so ecstatic about this news. There are many designs I have so far, and I'd love to see them on fabric. Today has truly been fruitful in feeding my creative soul.

The Art of Freelancing

For the past few years, I've been toiling with graphic design. I enjoy the process of conveying a message into a neatly packaged logo and image. I also enjoy the reactions of others seeing my work. The problem is that I have yet to learn the art of freelancing. I am not necessarily in distress about my capabilities to design. But I am struggling in the facilitation of a productive relationship with the client. What should one do when the client refuses to listen to your expertise? When is the right time to step back from personal and professional priniciples to satisfy the client, even when what they want is a hot mess? As a designer, how can you produce, in a timely manner, work that is forever being changed by an indecisive client? How can you stop a few bad apples from spoiling the bunch?

I've had my ups and my downs as a graphic designer, and I definitely prefer the ups. Is there anyone else out there in the blogosphere facing similar issues? What tips can you provide? Are there any books that deal with such a dilemma?
