Ramblings of Fear and Fulfillment: A Moment to Catchup

Duality, marker and digital color

Hi lovelies!

I haven't done a written post in several weeks and I felt the need to reconnect. I am in the midst of making things happen. When I moved out to the Seattle area two years ago, my intent was to live as a thriving artist. I envisioned connecting with other artists and working on collaborative projects, showing at exhibitions, selling art, and doing other stuff. In the time since being here, I have participated in a show here, sold works in a bookstore, and secured my first commission. However, I wasn't doing all that I could do. After applying for a number of call for artists and receiving rejection letters, I was doubting who I was and my work. This made me stall and simply make art for me and not share it with anyone.

But, then, I had to realize the super awesomeness that exists from being different, unique, an individualized expression of the Divine. I also had to recognize that there are people that appreciate what I do and that I should focus on this love. Also, I had to recognize my calling to go abroad. So, what has been happening you may ask? Well, I am in the thick of living right now and I am loving it.

First, I am applying for a grant that will allow me to travel to South Korea and conduct a photography project. My purpose is to visit sacred sites and temples, learn about other spiritual practices, and then come back to the states and share these experiences through exhibition and presentations. OMG!! I have just told more people about this intention. I used to be afraid to tell others about my dreams thinking that I would look stupid if they didn't come to fruition. Boy, have I changed. Working on this application is a tedious process and I had to get over some humps of fear to get through this. Secondly, I will be participating with ISIS: Women Arts Festival and its event at the Burke Museum in October. At the moment, I have yet to decide on pieces to get printed for the event. It's all good though. Divine timing is perfect timing. I will keep you abreast of details in the upcoming weeks.

I think that's about it for now wonderful people. Oh, I almost forgot. I have surpassed 9500 views on At the Art of It. Let's celebrate! I'm thinking a giveaway is in order. I so appreciate everyone that has supported me and my endeavors as a creative in this beautiful, ever-changing world. The love within and share throughout. So, give me your thoughts. What would you like as a giveaway prize? I will be sharing this question as well on my Facebook page and Twitter. Wow, my ramblings turned into a giveaway post. Amazing!

Talk to you later,

Darnita
