Introducing the At the Art of It 365 Project

Hi Lovely Souls!

Yesterday, I decided that it was time to add something new to the fold of my life. So, I thought it would be a great idea to start a 365 photography project. After seeing a number of sites dedicated to sharing others 365 photo projects, I thought keeping it simple and on here would be best. With this undertaking, I hope to increase my skills as a photographer as well as becoming more aware of the present moments. I have released my attachments to the past so to speak and being aware of what's in front of me throughout the day will be kind of a new concept for me. I will begin this journey June 1st. I look forward to sharing.

6x6x2013 Show at Rochester Contemporary Art Center

Hey all!

I hope you are relishing in the joy of your existence. I sure am. Can't remember if I mentioned it or not but I submitted a work for the 6x6x2013 show at Rochester Contemporary Art Center (RoCo). This year, there are over 6,000 works made by over 2,600 artists. Can you say WOW? The annual show has a multi-step process for purchasing amazing works. The global online preview begins May 24th. RoCo has all of the details and schedule of events surrounding the show, so I suggest you stop by before missing out.

Goodies from Liberate Your Art

Hi All,

I totally forgot about the blog hop for Liberate Your Art postcard swap and so I am just bringing the goods today. The hop was May 10-12th and those that participated in the swap shared the beautiful treasures received in the mail. I was so tickled with my postcards because a couple came from my own neck of the woods, even from my address. I did question the universe of how that happened, but it was and is all well.  Thank you to the artists and photographers that participated in Liberate Your Art and here is a list of the artists whose cards I received:

1. Madge (www.theviewfromrighthere.com)

2. Tamara (www.writeyourliferight.com)

3. Sheila (www.sheilahughespetphotography.com)

4. Vigdis Lobach (www.kunstkaniskje.blogspot.com)

5. Colleen

6. Kat Sloma (www.kateyestudio.com)

P.S.  Kat Sloma who put on the swap created a beautiful video showing the many postcards that were a part of this experience. You can find it here.

To Mother Figures Everywhere: Happy Mother's Day!

Because I feel that, in the Heavens above,
The angels, whispering to one another,
Can find, among their burning terms of love,
None so devotional as that of “Mother,”
Therefore by that dear name I long have called you—
You who are more than mother unto me,
And fill my heart of hearts, where Death installed you,
In setting my Virginia’s spirit free.
My mother—my own mother, who died early,
Was but the mother of myself; but you
Are mother to the one I loved so dearly,
And thus are dearer than the mother I knew
By that infinity with which my wife
Was dearer to my soul than its soul-life.

To mother figures everywhere, I bid you a Happy Mother's Day.

Teaching Fractals

Image: http://www.sxc.hu

Next week, I will be standing in front of middle schoolers discussing the wonderful world of fractals. This is a moment where I am feeling much joy as well as anxiety. Here I am being vulnerable in front of other vulnerable beings in hopes that what I share will click for them. As I prepare for this presentation, I am consciously thinking about this age group and how I was at that age. I was very much into math and science and I always enjoyed the ooh and aah moments that these subjects brought. But, I also remember that not everyone was as enthusiastic. And that my dear is why I am anxious. I know I shouldn't be hard on myself, but sometimes my ego likes to get me in a tizzy. My ego wants all of the students to go "I love fractals!" or even "Thank you so much, Ms. Darnita. I learned something amazing today." (sigh) Back to reality and all I can really hope for is that I show up in the way Spirit has me show up on that day and that the students take a bit of something new with them. Shouldn't that be enough? Yeah. OK, I'm better now.
