What is a fractal anyway?
A fractal is a pattern that replicates itself continuously or infinitely in some cases. In the everyday world, one can see fractals in broccoli, nautilus shells, ferns, and even the center of a magnolia flower. A digital fractal which I like to create evolves and transforms through manipulation of equations and other steps. Through application of mathematical formula, color changes, and focal points, new images are revealed.
Currently, there are various computer programs available for students, scientists, mathematicians, artists, and other individuals to become exposed to fractals. A basic Mandelbrot fractal (one of the most popular forms) and named after Benoit Mandelbrot can be changed drastically.
I use fractals as my medium for most pieces. Each one is different and amazing. See below the before and after results of one my transformations.
